Hello everyone,
Well here we are in germany!
For those of you who didn't know, Giovanni's family moved to Germany a month or so ago, for better work prospects.
Our flight was long and tiring. It seemed to go forever, including a stopover that we didn't expect, where we had to pack everything up, get off the plane, go through the strict customs in Singapore and then get back on the same plane! Apparently it's one of the only countries that make passengers do this on a stopover. And they were so strict. They confiscated our toothpaste which was 10grams over the limit of hand luggage liquids and tried to confiscate also my beloved essential oil cream, which to pass through I had to take out of the container and put into two ziplock bags of 100grams each! How messy and unnecessary! So strict!
So that was tiring at 2 o'clock in the morning, but luckily we made it to Frankfurt with no problems. It was so hot when we got there, we were suffering in our thermals and long pants after that aeroplane chill you feel. We were all loaded up too with our crazy baggage so we couldn't even get into cooler clothes until we finally got onto the train for Mainheim. Giovanni was red in the face, sweating and was almost having a fit!! When we finally changed from winter to summer clothes we could finally start to enjoy the fact we were in Europe!
It's still really hot and humid It was already light when we awoke at 4.30 this morning, due to the lovely jetlag of travelling to Europe, and it doesn't get dark until 10.30pm!
Everything is just so different here. It's fun to notice all the small and subtle differences. I know that I'll get used to everything soon, but at the moment, the cobble stoned streets, the old people on bikes, the littles bars on every corner, the trams, driving on the other side of the road and the church bells tolling for half an hour in the morning...they're all the little things you first notice. I haven't seen much yet, but it's really nice here in this suburb of Ludwigshafen.
The family's welcome was beautiful. Everyone was so excited to see us! Including the dog, who wouldn't get off Giovanni's leg for the whole first day!
The baby girls are so gorgeous, especially Mischelle, who is nearly two. She is adorable! She is so affectionate and comes and pats your back or your arm, or comes and snuggles next to you or lies on you while you're on the bed. What a treasure! She's loving Lo Zio UNCLE Giovanni who has so many fun instruments to show her. She has discovered that our room is a wonderland of new things to play with and comes and visits us all the time. How cute!
The rest of the family are so happy to see us too and Mamma made us very welcome with an amazing meal of Vegetarian lasagna and Parmesan Eggplant, a family favourite! Yum! I can already feel my stomach expanding to an more sutiable Italian size!!!
