Hello to everyone from Denmark!!
I'm sitting here still in my work clothes for the cold. Jacket, work pants, jumper and boots and I'm feeling tired after a hard day's work!
Yes, from travelling gypsies to land care and maintanance in nature reserves in Denmark! We found a great opportunity to work for three and half months in Denmark through a seasonal work agency and we decided to take the job and save some money, so as to extend our travels and not arrive as usual in Australia without a cent to our names!
We started four days ago and so far it's been a really great job! Wow! We get to see the most beautiful places on the island ( We live and work on the middle island of Denmark, called Fyn.) So far we've been working in the nature reserves around the city of Odense, the captial of the island. There are streams which in the Autumn season need to be pruned back so the tourist boats can pass. Along the streams there are wide bike paths and picnic areas. We've already seen such beauty here in nature. The forests are mainly birch, elm and oak and along the streams there are willow trees. It is such a peaceful setting to work in with no cars passing, just the silence of nature. It is perfect for us! The boss is nice and the team is made up of other travellers and seasonal workers from around Europe. The girls get to also visit all the surrounding forests to check the bins and tidy the picnic areas. So in this way, I'm also seeing all the best camping places for the weekend!
We already love Denmark. It's such a beautiful country. It's very rural, with open spaces, lots of green and beautiful traditional houses, made with thatch roofs and perfect gardens. The houses seem like hobbit houses, as the doors and windows are all so low( perhaps for the cold.)
It's actually quite chilly already, but mainly because of the wind from the water. We're only 12 km from the coast, but we haven't seen it yet, as we arrived on Sunday, unpacked and organised and then started work the day after.
We're living with three other workers from Spain. We get along really well. We couldn't have hoped for better flat mates. They are clean and responsible and like minded! ( And we get to practise and perfect our Spanish!)
We are very organsied, as we were told the food was very expensive here so we did a huge shop up in Germany to last for three months, before passing to Denmark. Now we are all set and only have to buy fruit and vegies each week.
A few weeks ago, we decided to buy a little car in Germany to be able to move around in Europe and we headed off straight away to another Rainbow gathering in Serbia. It was a really big and well organised world gathering, with 1000 people for the full moon celebration. Many people came from the Ukraine, Russia, Slovenia and other parts of Europe like Spain, Italy and Germany. There were also lots of Israelis...so it was really beautiful to have such a mix of cultures, music and languages.
When we returned we spent a special time with Giovanni's family, as we were asked to be the Godparents for little Emily's baptism.

I am organising our mobile number for Denmark and I'll write it on here tomorrow, if anyone wants to call me for my birthday!! ( Actually I'm lucky because our boss gave us the day off on Monday to organise the beauracrasy of opening a bank account, organising tax ect. for working in Denmark. With the excuse we're going to enjoy a free day exploring the island for my birthday!I can't wait!)
We'll put the photos up from this last month in the next few days.
We send all our love to you all from this beautiful land.
Love and light
