On arrival from hold and sticky West Africa, it was quite a shock to get out of the plane to iced -over tarmack, where one could so easily slide and slip! In fact one rugged up African family, mamma carrying baby, hand in hand with her other child, with bags and all, slipped on the ice as they got down from the ramp!Poor things! What an entrance to Europe!
It was so cold! -5 degrees!! We arrived in Paris by plane and then took a fast train to Frankfurt, then another to where Giovanni's family live. We were pretty exhausted by the time we finally arrived home, but we were welcomed by huge hugs and kisses from the family. They were so happy to see us, just a few hours off the stroke of midnight for New Year's Eve 2008/9! Finally, even if it wasn't for Christmas (which we have never spent with Giovanni's family) but still the first New Year's Eve spent together! It was so nice! We had a wonderful time, eating amazing food and sharing crazy stories of Africa and beyond and the family catching us up with the latest news. It was lovely to see the our little nieces, who had grown alot in our time away. We had so much fun, chatting around the table until midnight, then drinking a toast to the new year. Then the hour of local fireworks (here in Germany one can buy and set off your own fireworks. Dangerous, but it was great to not have to head out into the freezing cold! We could see it all from our window!!)
After 5 short days spent with the family, (eating enough to make up for all our time in West Africa!! And more! Mamma cooked all our favourites!) we headed off to tropical Thailand! On my next update, we'll tell you all about it, but for now we're spending our days eating delicious food and roaming the massive markets of Bangkok, which are enormous! We're designing and ordering amazing clothes for our market stall for the coming year. How exciting!
Until soon
Love and light
Jess and Giovanni
