Well, as you can see, we've been loving our time spent here so far in Northern California. It's a perfect time of year to visit, the end of summer, but still very hot. We've spent most of our time in nature, rather than big cites and bright lights! It's so beautiful here......We enjoyed a road trip over to the coast to see and walk amongst the enormous redwood trees that grow up to 115 metres tall, where we saw wild elk and deer and camped for a few nights, then took a different route back taking us through a few towns in the state of Oregon, swimming in the turquoise walks of the Jedediah Smith river. Then a few days later we walked to the local WhiskeyCreek Falls, biked around the Sacramento River trail and camped out at Stuarts Fork at the base of the Trinity Alps. We finished up our beautiful time here with our friends out on Whiskeytown Lake for a lazy Sunday on a friend's boat! Very spoilt and sad to say goodbye to our friends and new friends we've made...it's been such a comfortable and soft landing for us here, like a home away from home...we could stay forever! But tomorrow, after nearly three weeks, we are finally heading off in our Dodge van across to the coast and then down the coastline to visit some friends in Los Angeles. We're also going to meet some of Giovanni's long lost relatives from Sicily who live in Beverly Hills! What a classic!

The coastal end to the 12 km hike through the redwoods, where there was a wild male elk that I had to walk past alone! Required a deep breath....as there are signs all over saying do not approach wild elk..DANGER! He kept looking at me but he was fine...

The rangers who do trail repair from the Californian Conservation Corps come in only via horse and mules packed behind them with tools, camping equipment and food for the workers every few days. Pretty narrow little trail to follow up and down the hills..... There is no other way in or out.
