Travelling mexico with Ush! PART 1

First meal in Mexcio with Ushy...tacos, with lots of clay pots of different salsas to add on top..yum!
Our main mission for going to the big and busy Mexico city was to visit our favourite artist Frida Kahlo´s blue house....

Amazing to see these works in real life....Frida suffered a painful life but created out of it vivid beauty through her clothing and artworks...
An unfinished work I had never seen...

Her bright kitchen reminded me of our colourful house...

Wow! Her paints and mirror for all those self-portraits...

I love the hand-embroidered motifs of colourful animals and flowers that I see everywhere here...
 Another yummy market meal...quesadillas..
Roaming the historical centre of Mexico city we found great modern murals in traditional colours..
A "curandero"...healer doing a ceremony on a small obliging boy for a small fee...

What a classic! So Mexican and certainly not what we would expect on a street called Jesus Mary! (In preparartion for the massive celebrations to come on the first of November, The Day of the Dead)
 Chilling out in the hostel...
Our first realisation that it was the rainy season here caught us by surprise!! So we sat it out in a tiny restaurant where Mexican cowboys put on old songs on the juke box!

Yum! This is a hot chocolate drink famous from Oaxaca, a small colonial style village we headed to next...
Tylayudasd are also famous here and delicious...
Colourful street life and we saw a fiesta of traditional folkloric dances on the first nioght we headed out...

Some people must think that "Religion is the Opium of their town", written on the cathedral...
Green tomatoes used for all the green salsas...

 Chillies in abundance..
So many types and colours of dried corn...

A gorgeous set of three sisters working in the market where we spent a great deal of our morning, using our spanish to tell them funny stories and trying to explain why we were travelling without our partners!!
Don´t ever get your legs waxed in a dodgy salon! Hours later, a lot of pain and still not a great deal of difference!!

Anotehr art exhibition we went to...
Sculls feature a lot on Mexico...
These Mariachi´s (travelling performers) let me play the fiddle...what fun!

A little coconut icecream treat for our trip to the mountains...
A very happy camper in our cabins that looked like Swiss chalets!

We climbed the bell tower which i don´t think most tourists do! And found it a good place to do some yoga!

The town called Amatlan where we started our mountain walk...
Always a cactus around the corner....

 We love our donkeys!

The day before we started our walking trip around these mountain villages....

I will continue to add photos as I go, but my darling friend Ush and I have been having a wonderful time here exploring amazing places in Mexico....We've been here for two weeks and have already done so much, practising and getting much more fluent every day with our Spanish, loving the food, the people, the nature and the colours around us...
Sending much love
Jess!
