The famous and much awaited celebrations for The Day of the Dead, the 1st of November...families visit their family graves, have a picnic on top of their graves, play cards and generally spend the day together, fixing up the flowers, painting more colours on the already very bright grave houses....thenh they more affluent can afford to call over the travelling mariachis (musicians) to sing the family a song... a very interesting approach to death...suited to the generally happy atmosphere here!

After a little chat in Spanish (their second language after Tsotsil), I found out that the girls generally marry at 14 years old and then start having children...this girl was 16 with a bub...Giovanni rightly pointed out that she could have been my daughter and I could already be a grandma! Crazy!
